Well, that's over and done with. The move went off without a hitch -- if you discount the frigid temperatures and jimmy-jacking of a sofa over a two-story balcony rail -- and Todd and I are mostly, if not entirely, moved in. The new place is fantastic! It's really starting to feel like home. Obviously we had cable and internet installed today. We had to finesse the TiVo for a while (and we'll be paying a bit more for a "basic" cable package), but I'm really happy with

1) The speed of the my internet connection, and,
2) The fact that I now have a season pass to both New Yankee Workshop and Spongebob Squarepants.

Classes start tomorrow. 'Not a moment too soon, in my opinion. Todd and I have been experiencing a little of the old timey cabin fever around here. Without cable or internet to occupy ourselves, we've had to make some accommodations with our time -- specifically, what the hell we were going to do with it. Over the last two days, I've watched all three extended editions of The Lord of the Rings, one series of the British Office, and all the Mythbusters we had already stored on the TiVo. I'm really looking forward to a little intellectual stimulation at this point.

I watched the second half of "The End Of Time" with [livejournal.com profile] another_myself last night. I didn't cry, like I thought I might, but my eyes weren't exactly dry at the end, either. I'm still not sure what happened (maybe I need my own Untempered Schism to go back and find out), but I'm really optimistic about Matt Smith's turn as the Doctor. The Special didn't "put my off my feed," I mean. To me, Ten will always be "my Doctor," but I'm excited to see what this new, mushy-faced kid can do.

Pictures of the new place are forthcoming. Would anyone be interested in seeing them?

HIATUS.

I'll be spending the next couple of days moving into a new apartment. I'm not sure when the cable/internet folks are going to come 'round, so this is me signing off for a while. I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year -- see you in another zip code!

I HAVE TOO MANY BOOKS.

And they're not even all packed. You never question the volume of your library until you're forced to move it from one place to another. Whew.

'Week between entries is unusual for me, but I didn't have the urge to break up the holiday because, frankly, I think I needed a break from the interwebz. I spent a fantastic week at home with my family, I got to see [livejournal.com profile] luuser and her family (she's working on the final season of Lost but, despite the depths of our friendship, she was contractually unable to spill the beans on anything that's going to happen), slept in (a lot), finished one book (fabulous!) and started another. I was blessed with a plethora of Christmas gifts, including a new pair of contacts (yay! The gift of sight!), a TARDIS-shaped USB hub, a red [H]ouse mug, and money to pay the rent-and-a-half that's coming due at the beginning of the month.

Todd and I brought back a lot of boxes and we're going to start packing up the place tomorrow. We're not too deeply embedded here, but moving is always a chore, so I'm trying to keep positive. We sign for the new apartment on New Year's Eve. My parents are coming up on the 2nd to help us move. We're pretty sure we're going to like the place. I say "pretty sure" because, due to certain extenuating circumstances, we haven't actually seen the apartment yet. All I know is that it's 10-25 square feet smaller than this place, it's on the second floor, and that we're getting a student discount on the rent. The place is also pet friendly, and Todd and I have been kicking around the idea of getting a dog. We were both raised in "dog" households, and it's been a real heart pain not to have one to look after. We want to make sure that one (or both) of us is going to be around enough to give the dog the care it deserves. Right now we're attenuating schedules (and funds) to see if it'll work out. I told Todd that we would have to be absolutely positively sure before we went to the shelter to "look" -- because it's never just "looking" when puppies are concerned.

Sherlock Holmes tomorrow! I can't wait!
