Ain't no rest for the wicked.

My vacation at home is winding down. Tomorrow, I'll help my little brother move down to college and then I'll head back to town. Or I'll wait until Sunday morning. It depends on how much heavy stuff there is to lift, and whether or not I feel like driving two hours after lifting it. It's been really nice to be home. My family has been great, and I think I've gotten caught up on all of the sleep I was missing since, well, since the beginning of January, really. There is still plenty to do before classes start up at the end of the month. I've decided to drop my Introduction to Hebrew class in favour of taking an independent study in TESOL. I need to write and submit a project proposal to the dean of the college before the week is out, which shouldn't be too difficult. I also need to come up with a list of books that I will use during the project, but I'm planning on meeting with my adviser next week to hash out some titles.
I almost can't believe that it's almost over. At the end of this year, I'm going to have a Master's degree. I have been so fortunate to be able to study something that I am very passionate about, and privileged to have made the friendships and professional contacts that I've made while I've been at university. I cannot imagine my life without some form of academic stimulation, whether it's taking classes or actually teaching. It's a bit unsettling to think that I will be, essentially, in freefall at the end of this year. But I'm slowly starting to accept that that's okay -- life happens the way that it's meant to happen. All we can do is to try our best to let it.
Dad, Kellen, and I are going to a baseball game tonight.
Look at this awesome stadium!
I just might have to pick up a Tincaps ballcap. :D

Date: 2010-08-14 06:14 pm (UTC)Oh but yes, academia has its way of worming itself into your heart and making the world a better place, one contact and accomplishment at a time :)) but think of all the places you can go with such a freedom!! I'm excited to be graduating with my undergrad degree soon (six years man-- I'm so relieved to be almost done; changing one's major a bazillion times, never recommended lolol), and then it's onto bigger and better things! ;))

Date: 2010-08-14 06:52 pm (UTC)I'm going through the typical pre-graduation withdrawal now, but I know that I'll survive in the post-academic world. I've done it before, after all. XD What are you getting your undergrad degree in? Congratulations on almost being done, btw!
