Oi. McAvoy. I'll give you Mr Tumnus, but only because there's something about having a bow-legged faun in a children's bedtime story that just smacks of goodness and decency.
But the rest of it, I just, I don't -- HEY. WHY AREN'T YOU OUT CUTTING IT UP IN LONDONTOWN?
See, the thing is I want to watch it. However, I was severely scarred by Saving Private Ryan. I saw that when I was thirteen - far too young to be watching movies with that amount of violence and gore in my opinion - it's terrified me ever since. :(
I haven't seen Saving Private Ryan -- mostly for the reasons you described. I was young(ish) when it came out and I think I self-censored myself against watching it because I knew that it would be very violent and difficult to watch. Band Of Brothers doesn't shie away from the gore or the gruesome reality of combat, but it's violence that is well-executed and serves a purpose. This isn't John Wayne's war (with all due respect to Mr. Wayne); this isn't cinematic war with cap guns and squibs. This is real, researched combat reenactment. It's hard to watch. I'm glad I'm watching it, though: it makes me respect that generation and the sacrifices they made.
Still have yet to see Band of Brothers, my boy Jonah saw it and raved about it for like two solid weeks so I'm thinking I need to see it.
And JAMES. See Atonement, if only for him being heartbreaking. I love him not just because I think he's ridiculously attractive, but for me it's more about how fucking awesome of an actor he is. He just breaks me open in some of his parts. :)
Todd gave me the plot synopsis of Atonement over breakfast one morning and, to be honest, I wasn't impressed. I feel the same way about The Kite Runner -- lot of hype, little payoff. I'd just prefer not to.
BUT. Following that stunning display of elitism, you should definitely watch Band Of Brothers.

Oh, the Kite RUnner was never interesting to me. It was all just...blargh.
Speaking of awesome HBO miniseries, did you see John Adams? AMAZING.
