Because my FL dictates my social calendar.

So, uh.

Is anybody going to be spending the weekend not living and breathing Harry Potter?

I'm not. Wheeeee.

Btw, have you seen the movie Mystery Train? Your trip to Memphis reminded me of it and if you haven't seen it you must do so now.

Not me. Steven Erikson all the way for me!

I mean, I'm just saying. The whole world is tightening its sphincter for this book -- which is great, if you like tight sphincters -- and I'm just kind of "...So. Sandwiches and tea at the cantina?"

Oooh, it's got Rufus Thomas in it! And I really like Jim Jarmusch. Coffee And Cigarettes is one of my token favourite movies. I'll have to look into this. Thanks for the recommendation.

Right on, you rebel.

And Screamin' Jay Hawkins and Joe Strummer and Steve Buscemi! If you like Jim Jarmusch already, then I need not say more.

Heheheh...sphincter.

I had to dictionary.com the spelling of that word. Believe it or not, it's not one I use very often.

I learned it when I was in high school...from watching Wayne's World.

That's a public school education for you.

I will definitely not be living and breathing Harry Potter this weekend. No parties, midnight obsessing, or freaking out about being sure to get the very first copy ever, or something like that. I've got Cabinet to cuddle up with, and plenty of other fun purchases.

[identity profile] katernater.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I understand that it's a big deal and I most certainly respect that a lot of people are worried/nervous/anxious about what is, in the end, a very well-crafted series of books and ideas. I know how frenzied I get about season finales of things, for example. But it seems like everyone is spazzing. I expect rioting before the weekend's out.

[identity profile] gleam.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I completely, fully agree. I admit I read the books and like them, but I just never..got that into it. I mean, it will end how it ends and after the last pages life'll go on. I'm sure there are plenty of spinoff series already in the works - like with Star Wars.

You're right, though. There's a lot of LJ chaos, there and with the whole lj_biz entry thing. You heard about that, yes?

[identity profile] katernater.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
I checked it out briefly. The LJ legal hamsters are doing overtime in their wheels of late.

[identity profile] gleam.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 04:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I guess they have to get a spin on their wheel sometime. The whole of it's just really ridiculous. When did something this fun get this complicated?

[identity profile] theorybinladen.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I won't, but only because I've already read it.

[identity profile] lissie-pissie.livejournal.com 2007-07-20 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
.... Nope. I will be eating it as well. Quite literally.
mwa ha ha.

[identity profile] arriterre.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
I most certainly am not.

I'd rather spend the weekend living and breathing Mr. Dury.

[identity profile] arriterre.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Good lord, I wouldn't call it well-crafted. She's simply put stereotype on the back of stereotype, and the overall structure of the series is poor and indulgent with a lot of irrelevent detail.

[identity profile] patchworkmind.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Me.

I enjoy HP, but I'm not bananas about it.

[identity profile] societyburning.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
Were I anything less, you'd be disappointed in me

[identity profile] arriterre.livejournal.com 2007-07-21 08:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh, Kate. Remember Iggy in coffee and cigarettes? Isn't he excellent?
