How beauteous mankind is!
Aug. 9th, 2009 06:40 pm"Ridley Scott and Leonardo DiCaprio will direct and star in a movie adaptation of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, about a utopian future in which state-encouraged orgies and drug-taking are the norm. Also, children are born and raised in hatcheries and conditioning centers, so you’ll never find a crying baby in your movie theater or airplane. DiCaprio will likely play Bernard, the guy who tries to screw things up for everybody."

I suppose that, in this sense, my years in public school were fairly progressive. As part of the curriculum for our junior and senior years, all literature classes were required to read 1984 and Brave New World. I remember that both books were really terrific, and unlike anything I'd read up to that point.
Also, I trust Ridley with this genre. 'Not so sure about DiCaprio, although I think he's old enough at this point to have his acting chops. We'll have to see.
