I have this rotten habit of buying a book, reading it halfway, then brooming it because I've bought another, presumably more interesting book. Like, right now, I'm more than halfway done with Wonder Boys and really enjoying it, but the other night Todd and I went out to the bookstore (my first mistake; letting me go into a bookstore, unfettered, is like taking an alcoholic to a liquor store and telling them they can only look at the novelty keychains by the counter) where I bought A Confederacy of Dunces. I keep eyeing it while I'm reading my other book. This is why I have a library of over 1,000 books but have realistically only read about half of them. I am a literary layerer.

Speaking of literature (or a rough approximation thereof): as far as "grief fics" go, this one isn't all that bad. Then again, I might just be warming up to the idea of the fifth season and therefore very impressionable. I usually don't go in for multi-chapter fics, either, but this one has kept my interest so far. I think it's a little extreme to write a fic that's over, let's say, ten chapters -- if you haven't gotten to your main narration by chapter seven, you're probably not going to get there at all. It's like how filmmakers make sure they recapture your interest every twenty-eight minutes. Audiences get restless.

Todd and I bought matching bicycles this weekend and they've already proved themselves to be a solid investment. On Saturday, we went for a bike ride around the neighborhood. I've been using the bike to supplement my workout routine on the nights when I can't be assed to go to the gym. There's a mile-long circuit through a pretty neighborhood behind my house and I can do six to ten revolutions of that before I get dizzy and have to come home. It's going to be a great bike to ride to and from campus.

I can't decide whether or not I want to buy Season 4 of "The Office". I heard that it went from being "kitschy cute" to "um...awkward" pretty quickly. Any thoughts? I've still got a load of X-Files to get through (Season 8 doesn't even get remotely interesting until, like, halfway through. Honest to god, the woman is great, but I can only take so much of Scully touching her stomach and looking wistful before I start yelling "JUST SELL THE BABY ALREADY, OKAY?!" and longing for post-modern prometheii.)
