katernater: ([writer] liar and a cheat)
Just keeping you, the viewer, apprised of my tumultuous schedule (as it stands.) My inaugural post at the Daily News officially begins tomorrow evening, when I will be manning the copy desk with my trusty AP Style Manual and a Red Bull.

As you can see, my availability will be substantially limited -- at least for now. The Daily News schedule is tentative and subject to change, but I wanted to post it for your benefit (as well as to solidify it in my own brain, heh.)

This vacation proved remarkably productive for one Kate E. Wilkening. In addition to attending my interview at a prestigious (and ethically sound) ad agency, I obtained my learner's permit and will presently be remembering the "rules of the road" after a two year hiatus. I find out about my internship within the week, but man. That place is amazing. They practically paint the walls with creativity. And while I'm on the subject of academic pursuits, my parents pretty much gave me the thumbs-up about my plan to study Anthropology as a post-graduate focus. I hope to be able to land a job at an ad agency (perhaps the one I may have an internship for this summer *crosses all appendages*) and attend night classes in pursuit of my Master's degree. Apparently the university in my hometown has a very respectable program, which would be glorious because I wouldn't have to pay for room and board -- my parents have pretty much told me that I'm welcome to stay. And yes, while I would have liked to move out on my own after graduation, I think that this is a smart move, all things considered.

I'm both excited and nervous about the Daily News post. It's a lot of work (somewhat more than I had anticipated), but I plan on diving into it headfirst. I wrote a couple of Features pieces for the IPFW paper before I transferred to Ball State, but had a very vague understanding of what actually happened to my pieces after I slipped them under the door of the office. Still, I welcome the experience. The staff is as close-knit as a family, and I look forward to insinuating myself as the bawdy aunt who drinks too much White Zin at holidays and tabledances to INXS.

...Okay, maybe that's too much to ask for, heh.
